Senior Transport Planner

Overview

As a Senior Transport Planner, you will drive early-stage transport planning for energy, commercial and residential developments. You’ll work within a transport planning team on site feasibility to planning submission, with exposure to public sector policy work and stakeholder engagement. The role offers remote working with a Scotland-based preference and a chance to shape transport solutions across wind, solar and battery storage schemes. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, compliant transport outcomes that support project success.

Responsibilities

• Prepare Traffic and Transport chapters for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) for large energy projects (wind, solar, battery storage)
• Produce Transport Assessments and Transport Statements for diverse developments
• Conduct site visits, feasibility studies and due diligence from a transport perspective
• Carry out detailed junction assessments using ARCADY, PICADY and LINSIG
• Develop access strategies, internal layouts and highway mitigation in line with DMRB and local standards
• Serve as a key transport input contact on projects and collaborate with clients, architects and multidisciplinary teams
• Engage with local authorities and stakeholders to support project outcomes
• Manage project budgets, timelines and resources; assist with tenders and fee proposals to shape opportunities in energy and infrastructure

Key requirements

• A degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning, Geography or a related subject
• Progression towards, or achievement of, Chartered status (e.g. CEng, TPP, MRTPI) is desirable
• Strong hands-on experience with junction modelling software (ARCADY, PICADY, LINSIG)
• Experience producing EIAs, Transport Assessments and CTMPs
• Solid understanding of UK design guidance (Manual for Streets, DMRB) and planning policy
• Background working with private sector clients such as developers or landowners
• Experience in energy or infrastructure projects (renewables, grid connections) is advantageous
• Commercial awareness: budgeting, deadlines and delivering to timeframes
