Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Data Centres) – London or Bicester

Overview

As Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will lead medium-size projects from development through coordination of mechanical installations, working with clients and contractors on design and build contracts. You will contribute to low-energy, zero-carbon building aims and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, compliant engineering solutions. Your role combines technical design leadership with client-facing responsibilities to drive project success and value for a global consultancy.

Responsibilities

• Lead the run of medium-size projects and manage progress across multiple concurrent assignments
• Engage with clients to develop, design and coordinate mechanical project services
• Develop specifications for controls, instruments and operating systems for building services
• Survey, test and report on existing installations to inform design decisions
• Ensure manufacturing, construction, installation and testing meet specifications and customer requirements
• Make day-to-day project decisions and provide guidance to clients and project teams
• Represent the company at technical meetings with customers, professional teams and contractors
• Perform engineering calculations to ensure drawings meet standards and regulations
• Quality-check and validate designs and specifications, mentoring trainees and engineers

Key requirements

• BEng (minimum); MSc is a plus
• MCIBSE/MIEE or HNC/HND with relevant experience; working towards Chartered Engineer status
• Competence in specification design/drawing for multiple building types
• Strong knowledge of health and safety issues and BS standards
• Proficient in MS Office; able to use IT-based calculation/spreadsheet tools
• Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
• Experience in consulting or construction and international project environments
