Senior / Principal Transport Planner – Energy Sector

Overview

In this Senior/Principal Transport Planner role within WSP’s Energy-focused Transport Planning & Mobility team, you lead transport planning work across large energy projects to support consented, well-delivered schemes. You engage with clients, local authorities, and multidisciplinary teams to scope and appraise impacts and mitigations, ensuring projects meet technical standards and budgets. You’ll contribute to shaping the UK’s energy transition through robust planning and stakeholder engagement, across a flexible hybrid workplace with opportunities to grow and network.

Responsibilities

• Undertake Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, and Environmental Statement Transport Chapters, and prepare Construction Traffic Management Plans and Travel Plans
• Lead technical discussions on site accessibility across modes and articulate required mitigations for planning approvals
• Collaborate with adjacent disciplines (noise, air quality, ecology, highways) to deliver integrated transport outcomes
• Upskill to work across other transport workstreams (communication and engagement) for balanced local workflows
• Represent WSP values in client engagements and manage projects to budget, programme, and technical standards
• Maintain knowledge of relevant standards and policies, network with industry stakeholders, and attend conferences as appropriate

Key requirements

• Experience of Scoping Reports, Transport Assessments and Environmental Statement Transport Chapters
• Proven track record delivering transport planning projects and knowledge of guidelines and standards
• Familiarity with Local Authority Transport Plans and strategies; experience in transport feasibility studies and option assessments; inputs into transport business cases
• Strong numerical, spatial, and analytical skills; proficient with MS Office
• Ability to produce high-standard technical reports and present outputs to diverse audiences
• Knowledge of current transport policy at sub-regional, regional, and national levels
