Mechanical Engineer

Overview

In this role you ensure production targets are met by running and maintaining packaging line equipment, while upholding safety and quality. You will perform preventive maintenance, respond to faults, and support a collaborative maintenance team to maximise line efficiency. The position involves 12-hour shifts, including days, nights, and weekends, with a focus on data-informed decision making and rapid problem solving. You contribute to safe, reliable production that supports Ball’s sustainable packaging mission. This is a hands-on, impact‑driven role in a team‑oriented, safety‑driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Health and safety checks and following company guidelines
• Complete daily and monthly PMs
• Respond to breakdowns and fault identification
• Solve problems and diagnose faults
• Work within a team, lead and assist mechanics as needed
• Prioritise tasks to maximise output
• Communicate with Team Leader and ensure clear handovers
• Ensure all quality checks and start-up sheets are completed

Key requirements

• Engineering qualification
• Time served in a similar environment (production, manufacturing, FMCG)
• Able to understand and interpret data
• Engineering line work experience
• Fabrication and welding skills
• Good English and Maths
• Lean manufacturing experience desirable
• Right to work in the UK; sponsorship not offered
