In this role you design and integrate cutting-edge RF electronics for defence and electromagnetic warfare applications. Responsibilities
- Design, simulate, and implement RF and analogue circuits and systems for defence projects across domains like electromagnetic warfare, positioning and timing, and survivability
- Conduct hands-on integration, testing, troubleshooting, and debugging to optimize performance (impedance, VSWR, wideband operation)
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical input to improve outcomes
- Prepare and maintain high-quality technical documentation and reports (design specs, test plans, results) for compliance
- Provide technical support to the Technical Lead (risk management, customer meeting input)
- Mentor and give feedback to junior engineers for team growth
- Proactively communicate and collaborate with stakeholders inside and outside the project team
- Comply with Roke policies and design/development processes
- Demonstrate excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Undertake engineering design and development activities on time, budget, and quality
- Provide effort estimates, assess complexity, and identify risks
- Assist in defining and achieving project goals
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Design Authorities, Systems Engineers, and stakeholders to translate requirements into tasks
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, foster a positive work environment, identify process improvements
- Continuously review processes to remove bottlenecks and implement improvements
Key requirements
- RF design engineering experience
- Experience with RF performance models (e.g., Microwave Office) and PCB layout (e.g., Altium)
- Experience designing solutions with very low SWaP-C
- RF design for harsh environments (EMC, vibration, thermal)
- Overseeing hardware transition to production, including environmental testing, qualification testing, and design certification
- Experience with spectrum analysers, vector analysers, power meters, signal generators, filters, switches, receivers, and power supplies
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, or equivalent
