Overview

In this leadership role, you guide HVDC Plant engineering across a multi-project offshore portfolio, aligning designs with standards and regulatory requirements. You will drive technical consistency, risk balance, and delivery certainty while shaping engineering capability and best practices. You collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and industry partners to advance HVDC technology and offshore delivery. This position anchors SSEN Transmission’s mission to enable a net-zero energy future through critical HVDC infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and accountability for HVDC Plant engineering initiatives, ensuring compliance with business, regulatory, and safety requirements
• Lead the proactive resolution of technical issues across the programme with collaborative problem-solving and sound engineering judgement
• Guide and mentor a team of specialist engineers, fostering an inclusive culture and career development
• Promote health, safety, and environmental excellence, ensuring CDM, ESQCR, and SSEN standards compliance
• Drive innovation and continuous improvement, engaging with industry forums to shape best practices
• Engage with technology providers to understand developments and feed into future technology strategies

Key requirements

• proven track record delivering complex HVDC Converter engineering projects
• strong initiative-taking and collaborative decision-making abilities
• deep technical knowledge of HVDC Plant engineering, CDM & ESQCR, and industry standards
• excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• engineering degree with Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent) preferred
