Delivery Director – Public Sector

Overview

In this role you will lead large-scale, end-to-end IT delivery for the Central Government sector, owning governance, budget, risk, and client satisfaction across portfolios over 50m. You act as a trusted CXO advisor, driving strategic growth and measurable value through cross-functional teams and multi-supplier ecosystems. You will manage complex programmes, maintain a proactive delivery culture, and enable high-quality, predictable outcomes in a Government context.

Responsibilities

• Strategic delivery leadership of large government technology portfolios (30m+), with full accountability for delivery performance, governance, quality, and financial outcomes.
• Oversee multiple concurrent programmes, aligning with client strategy and contractual commitments.
• Foster a no-surprises delivery culture with strong forecasting, risk management, and transparent stakeholder reporting.
• Build and sustain senior-level relationships with Government CXOs and Directors; ensure high client satisfaction.
• Act as a senior escalation point for complex commercial, operational, and delivery challenges.
• Own programme financial performance, including budgets, margins, forecasting, and cost modelling; manage contractual obligations across public sector frameworks.
• Support pre-sales and bid activity, ensuring delivery validation, mobilisation readiness, and realistic commercial modelling.
• Collaborate with Client Partners to identify growth and account expansion opportunities.
• Ensure robust project governance, KPIs aligned to client outcomes, risk/issue/change/conflict management, and quality controls.
• Lead cross-disciplinary, distributed teams; foster high-performance culture with objective setting, feedback, and development.
• Mobilise resources in collaboration with Practices and Service Lines; promote continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

Key requirements

• Proven track record leading complex Government sector programmes and portfolios exceeding 50m in value.
• Experience in large-scale transformation and policy-driven digital services (tax, compliance).
• Extensive experience engaging and influencing CXO-level stakeholders.
• Successful management of distributed, multi-supplier, and client-side teams.
• Advanced stakeholder management, negotiation, and conflict resolution capabilities.
• Strong commercial acumen including financial modelling and margin management across contracting models.
• Deep understanding of UK Government procurement and governance frameworks.
• Practical experience with Agile, Scaled Agile, MSP, and hybrid delivery methodologies.
• Ability to manage ambiguity and risk with a forward-looking, solution-oriented mindset.
• Must be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC).
