Overview
In this role, you enable Wise’s UK product team to launch new offerings safely, aligning financial crime controls with regulatory expectations. You will shape scalable, customer-friendly controls across the product lifecycle and collaborate with FinCrime Product teams to strengthen Wise’s compliance posture. Your work supports Wise’s mission to simplify cross-border money movement while mitigating regulatory risk. The role offers impact through risk-based design, data-driven oversight, and cross-functional influence in a fast-growing fintech environment. You will engage with regulators and internal partners to drive responsible product growth.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement financial crime controls for new products, balancing regulatory compliance with a customer-centric approach
- Lead control enhancements across Wise product lines to ensure compliant and convenient customer experiences
- Develop ongoing review and monitoring processes to scale controls with product growth
- Identify improvements to customer experience, growth opportunities, and operational efficiency through controls
- Use data to measure control effectiveness and work with regional teams to identify key risks
- Provide guidance to Product and Operational teams on interpreting UK financial crime regulations
- Conduct risk assessments to quantify regulatory risk and needed mitigations
- Collaborate with the UK MLRO team and audit partners to strengthen FinCrime controls
- Translate regulatory requirements into actionable business requirements and maintain governance-ready documentation
- Occasionally travel to Wise offices in Europe and globally
Key requirements
- Significant experience in financial crime controls within a financial institution, fintech or consultancy (8+ years)
- Strong knowledge of UK financial crime regulation and guidance (Money Laundering Regulations, Proceeds of Crime Act, JMLSG)
- Sanctions controls experience (policy application, design/oversight for screening) is strongly preferred
- Proven track record implementing and improving financial crime controls across the customer lifecycle in product-led environments
- Solid understanding of EMI and payments; knowledge of correspondent banking is a plus
- Ability to drive work from inception to completion with pace, detail, and sound judgement
- Strong collaboration skills with Product, Engineering and Operations; ability to influence without authority
- Ability to interpret data and create actionable proposals; experience with KRIs
- Proven ability to translate regulatory requirements into actionable business requirements and maintain high-quality governance/audit documentation
