Refrigeration Engineer Manager

Overview

As Refrigeration Engineer Manager you lead a multi-site team responsible for the performance, reliability, and compliance of commercial and industrial refrigeration systems. You work closely with clients and site managers to set priorities, manage workloads, and drive improvements. You’ll oversee maintenance, breakdown response, and project work while developing technical and safety standards. The role combines hands-on engineering oversight with leadership to deliver reliable, compliant cooling solutions at scale.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of refrigeration engineers and senior technicians across multiple sites
• Oversee PPM, reactive breakdowns, and project work on commercial/industrial refrigeration systems (including CO2, transcritical, and parallel compression)
• Ensure compliance with F-Gas, H&S, PSM, and client standards and audits
• Plan workloads, call-out rotas, and on-call cover to meet SLAs and KPIs
• Drive first-time fix rates, reduce repeat calls, and improve uptime through root cause analysis
• Liaise with clients, site managers, and stakeholders to agree priorities and scopes
• Own technical documentation (P&IDs, maintenance records, risk assessments, method statements, compliance logs)
• Support tendering, scope definitions, and resource planning for new/existing contracts
• Contribute to recruitment, training, and competency development within the engineering team

Key requirements

• Senior Refrigeration Engineer or Refrigeration Manager experience in FM, retail, or industrial environments
• Strong knowledge of commercial refrigeration systems (rack systems, condensers, evaporators, controls, refrigerants incl. CO2 and A2L)
• Experience leading and developing engineering teams with focus on safety, quality, and performance
• Confident client communicator with ability to manage site and regional relationships
• Organised and data-driven with experience using CMMS/FM platforms to track works, compliance, and KPIs
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regionally
