Electrical Technical Director (Data Centres) – London or Bicester

Overview

In this role you lead electrical engineering for data centre projects in London, shaping technical delivery and client relationships. You guide cross‑functional teams, steer project strategy and commercial performance, and mentor engineers. You will present technical insights, contribute to sector development, and help the firm deliver zero‑carbon, efficient data centre solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, coordination and delivery of electrical and building services for projects
• Support Directors with business strategy and project fees
• Engage with clients and project teams to define requirements
• Manage schedules, progress reports, and project communications
• Develop control and operating system specifications for building services
• Survey and report on existing installations; ensure measurements meet standards
• Oversee commercial aspects to maintain target margins
• Monitor construction and installation activities; ensure risk control
• Foster long-term client relationships and business development
• Coordinate engineering services for concept and detail design
• Ensure compliance with specifications, standards, and customer requirements
• Mentor and develop junior engineers; contribute to technical white papers
• Present technical content at industry events and contribute to sector management
• Support tendering and procurement for MEP contractors/equipment
• Align delivery with RED Project Delivery Process (PM, QA/QC, Technical Review)
• Oversee office operations in collaboration with senior management
• Provide due diligence reports for data centres
• Promote ethical standards and best practices

Key requirements

• BSc/BEng in Building Services or equivalent experience
• Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent)
• Significant experience in designing for various building types
• Experience managing international projects (desirable)
• Strong knowledge of health and safety and regulations
• Contract and business law awareness
• Proficiency with MS Office applications
• Flexible, self-motivated work style
• Proficient in calculations and spreadsheet tools
• Knowledge of UK standards and BS regulations
• Experience with invoicing and credit control
• Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
• Strong presentation and leadership skills
• Consulting or construction background preferred
• Experience with international operations of a global consultancy
