Overview

In this role you will lead commercial management for highways projects in Derbyshire, guiding contract administration, cost control, and stakeholder engagement. You will work closely with the commercial line manager and operations to maximise value and profit across single large or multiple schemes. The opportunity sits within Galliford Try’s Infrastructure business, offering exposure to high-profile projects and a strong focus on team development and wellbeing. You will help shape commercial strategy and risk management in a dynamic public-sector context.

Responsibilities

  • Lead commercial management of projects, including contract administration, change control, and reporting
  • Prepare and manage subcontract documentation and commercial notices, plus monthly applications
  • Track, forecast, and reconcile project costs with detailed cost plans and expenditure reports
  • Support Project Manager with planning, risk management, and value/profit optimisation
  • Attend progress and risk reduction meetings and provide commercial insight
  • Lead, develop, and support the commercial team to reach their potential and wellbeing
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders
  • Promote and maintain a safe and inclusive working environment

Key requirements

  • Solid understanding of construction processes and NEC contracts with relevant commercial experience or degree
  • Strong leadership with a track record of developing and supporting team members
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and negotiation abilities (including final accounts)
  • Advanced IT skills including Excel, Word, and contract/cost management systems
  • Highly organised with strong time management and outcome focus; CSCS card required
