Head of Delivery Rail Tunnels

Overview

In this Head of Delivery role you will lead the Euston tunnelling package of a multi‑billion rail programme, ensuring delivery within scope, time and budget. You will steer a multidisciplinary team across design, site, and interfaces, aligning with HS2 objectives and NEC contracts. You’ll tackle complex tunnelling and civils works, including TBM tunnelling and sprayed concrete lining, while managing safety, risk, and commercial performance. This is a high‑impact leadership position shaping a landmark rail infrastructure project in Europe.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of the circa 3.75bn tunnelling, shafts, headhouses and major structural works package between Old Oak Common and Euston
• Manage NEC contract environments to drive performance and compliance, ideally NEC Option C
• Direct multi‑disciplinary teams across design, construction, interfaces and safety
• Oversee budget control, forecasting, metrics and KPIs for the package and broader programme
• Manage complex on‑site operations and interfaces with utilities, cavern works and TBM tunnelling
• Maintain strong stakeholder engagement with clients, authorities and principal contractors
• champion health, safety and wellbeing across the project
• Provide governance and reporting to senior programme leadership
• Ensure alignments with regulatory, safety and quality standards

Key requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering
• Experience delivering major railway infrastructure projects
• Experience in operational railway environments
• Strong understanding of complex civil engineering and structural works
• Experience on major tunnelling projects with TBM tunnelling and SCL/sprayed concrete lining
• Delivery of projects valued in hundreds of millions (ideally 700m+) with exposure to 1bn+ projects
• Strong NEC contract experience (ideally NEC Option C)
• Proven leadership of major projects rather than governance roles
• Commercial and financial acumen with budgets, forecasts, metrics and KPIs
• Experience with principal contractors either client‑side or contractor
• Strong leadership in multidisciplinary teams
• Excellent stakeholder management in high‑profile settings
