Senior/AVP, Europe Construction & Engineering Division

Overview

In this role you will underwrite a diverse, international construction book, drive profitability and portfolio growth, and mentor a technical underwriting team. You’ll support regional and global leadership in setting strategy, budgets, and pricing models while expanding business in Global Markets and the London Market. You will collaborate with actuaries, claims, and brokers to manage risk, pricing, and wordings, shaping solutions for high-value projects.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and price a diverse book of business within guidelines to meet profitability and growth targets
• Authorize quotes and invoices; issue bound policies timely and ensure compliant wordings with legal
• Direct junior underwriters and underwriting assistants; develop team through training
• Perform detailed account analyses, assess terms/conditions, and coordinate with departments to understand risk exposures
• Develop business in Global Markets and London Market; support regional/global head with strategy and budgets
• Maintain orderly underwriting files and prepare management information reports
• Collaborate with actuarial to develop pricing models and benchmark premiums
• Coordinate with Claims on market concerns affecting profitability
• Stay updated on market developments; maintain client/broker relationships and gather binding information
• Delegate work to junior staff and oversee professional development of team
• Position region-specific P&L ownership; participate in Lloyd’s box as required
• Other duties as assigned

Key requirements

• 12+ years of underwriting experience on major international construction projects
• ACII or equivalent professional qualification (preferred)
• Engineering degree (civil or mechanical) preferred
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client/broker liaison
• Strong marketing and business development capability with commercial acumen
• Advanced proficiency with underwriting systems; knowledge of Genius and Open Box advantageous
• Methodical, organized, detail-focused with ability to meet tight deadlines
• Team player with leadership potential and mentoring capability
• Fluent in English; other languages beneficial
