Engineering Manager, Build

Overview

Lead the Build team to own the strategy, execution, and reliability of the systems that turn GitLab source into secure, verifiable artifacts for Self-Managed and other targets. You’ll shape the build platform foundations, enabling faster, self-service delivery for development teams while ensuring artifacts are dependable for customers. You will drive continuous improvement, observability, and cross-team collaboration to reduce onboarding friction and improve platform impact. This role offers influence over critical delivery pipelines and security-aware builds within a high-performance culture.

Responsibilities

• Steer the Build team roadmap across UBT, TUBE, and the broader build platform
• Own delivery of distributable artifacts (packages, container images, cloud marketplace images)
• Drive a build-once, deploy-everywhere model across Omnibus, CNG, and future targets
• Lead centralized dependency management and coordinated updates across components
• Ensure supply chain security via SBOMs, vetted dependencies, and compliant build isolation
• Create self-service onboarding with CI templates and documentation
• Improve build quality via unified environments and validation
• Establish observability, dashboards, and metrics for build pipelines and platform impact
• Partner with Delivery and adjacent teams to unblock onboarding and reduce coordination overhead
