Principal Electrical Engineer

Overview

As a Principal Electrical Design Engineer, you will lead the electrical design on complex water and wastewater projects, guiding layouts, documentation and technical quality. You’ll mentor junior engineers and ensure cross‑disciplinary coordination with mechanical, process and civil teams. This role combines hands-on design leadership with client-facing proposal support in a hybrid, SE-based setting. You help deliver safe, cost‑effective solutions within a dynamic engineering environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design layouts and documentation for water infrastructure projects
• Ensure designs are cost‑effective, buildable, and compliant with standards and health & safety
• Collaborate with mechanical, process, and civil teams
• Support project proposals and estimates
• Drive process improvements and uphold technical quality
• Contribute to staff development and departmental best practices

Key requirements

• Degree-qualified electrical engineer with chartered status or working towards it
• Strong experience in electrical design for water and wastewater projects
• Proven leadership experience in managing design teams
• Excellent knowledge of multidisciplinary coordination in engineering projects
• Skilled in presenting technical proposals and managing client expectations
• Full UK driving licence
