Overview

In this role you lead the Specialist Engineering Team to support national and international Special Projects, with a core focus on Human Factors, safety, and environmental aspects. You will drive design integration and deliver systems that meet user needs in high-stakes environments. You shape HF investigations, trials, and documentation to inform development. You will mentor junior engineers and propel technical direction within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage application of human performance principles to human-machine systems design
  • Oversee development and implementation of HF research methodologies and analysis plans for prototypes
  • Collaborate with design engineers to define system design, operating, and training requirements
  • Identify technological risks and conduct theoretical HF investigations with analysis plans
  • Direct HF contribution to design processes and ensure effective communication of data
  • Develop and implement HF design documents (HFIP, style guide, analysis reports) and use HF Defence Standards
  • Advocate for HF and Specialist Engineering within the engineering process
  • Use user feedback and trials to influence design decisions
  • Develop solutions addressing HF design issues and balance user needs with constraints
  • Mentor and develop junior staff within the team
  • Present technical findings clearly in reports
