Development Chemist

Overview

As a Development Chemist, you will create and refine aerospace coatings formulations while improving existing products. You will report to the Science & Technology Coatings Manager and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet customer needs and regulatory requirements. The role involves hands-on lab work, formulation decisions, and support across quality, industrialization, and supplier interactions. This is a technically engaging position at PPG that shapes coating solutions for demanding aerospace applications. You will contribute to the company’s mission by driving innovation and manufacturing-ready formulations.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory work related to Task Requests and Projects
• Develop new products to meet customer requirements and environmental legislation
• Engineer/modify existing products to meet customer requirements
• Provide advice and recommendations to other departments and customers
• Perform other work according to Task request system
• Input formulations into the site MRP system
• Make decisions on production batch adjustments, raw material selection, and specifications
• Meet with suppliers to discuss new materials or problems
• Support quality in resolving customer complaints
• Support Industrialization in establishing manufacturing processes
• Handle daily EHS, 5S, and other company programmes

Key requirements

• A Chemistry degree or relevant work experience
• Ability to formulate coatings (training provided)
• 2+ years of Lab-based experience
