Overview

In this role you will assess and support student mental health needs, making timely risk-informed decisions and coordinating care with university services and external NHS partners. You’ll work within a small, multidisciplinary team to provide assessment, stabilization, and signposting, while also delivering training and consultancy to Imperial staff. The position offers a chance to shape student wellbeing through proactive risk management and collaborative care pathways. You will engage with students and staff to strengthen support across the university community.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with students to build supportive relationships around mental health
  • Perform timely mental health and risk assessments and determine appropriate responses
  • Coordinate care with internal teams, NHS services and external agencies for referrals
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships for better communication and referrals
  • Deliver mental health workshops and training for staff and students
  • Provide guidance on signposting and onward referral pathways
  • Support staff by offering consultancy on mental health issues
  • Promote student-centred, pragmatic approaches within a fast-paced environment

Key requirements

  • Professionally registered mental health professional (Nurse, Social Worker, Psychologist or equivalent)
  • Substantial clinical mental health experience in statutory services (SPA, Crisis, Liaison, Community Mental Health)
  • Advanced risk-assessment and formulation skills with rapid decision-making
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary networks and external agencies
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining clinical judgement
  • Flexible, collaborative, and student-centred clinician
  • Proven ability to provide advice and support on acute and enduring mental health difficulties
