Solutions Design Manager

Overview

As a Solution Design Manager at DHL Supply Chain, you’ll translate customer needs and operational data into practical, scalable solutions. You’ll lead multi‑workstream design from concept to implementation, focusing on aviation/travel or defence domains. You’ll collaborate across functions to deliver end‑to‑end warehouse and logistics designs, balancing cost, risk and feasibility. This role offers exposure to bids, new builds and automation, with a collaborative design culture and opportunities to shape design standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead multiple design workstreams from concept through detailed design, costing, risk and implementation support
• Analyse customer data, flows, demand and constraints to define viable design options
• Develop end‑to‑end warehouse and supply chain solutions for existing facilities and new builds (manual, mechanised and automated)
• Create layouts, resource models, productivity analyses, costings and design documentation
• Test designs via sensitivity analysis and benchmarking to remain robust against changing requirements
• Collaborate with Business Development, Operations, IT, Procurement, Finance, property specialists, technology partners and customers to align on solutions
• Explain complex findings clearly, challenge assumptions, and secure operational and commercial buy‑in
• Support implementation teams and share knowledge through peer review and development of design standards

Key requirements

• Strong analytical problem‑solving with ability to interpret complex operational data
• Understanding of how warehouse or logistics operations work (flow, capacity, labour, service, risk and cost)
• Experience improving or implementing complex logistics processes or technology
• Commercial awareness to balance customer, operational and financial needs
• Clear communication and stakeholder influence, with ability to present recommendations
• Ownership of multiple workstreams and ability to manage risks, decisions and dependencies
• Curiosity about automation and emerging technologies with practical delivery focus
