Overview
As an Application Specialist at Abbott, you apply your biomedical science expertise to support UK laboratories with training, installation, and optimization of diagnostic systems. You will work closely with NHS and private labs to ensure high performance and compliance. The role combines hands-on science with customer engagement and field support, requiring substantial travel across the territory. You will be a technical and clinical advisor, helping laboratories implement and troubleshoot Abbott solutions while upholding quality standards. This is a chance to impact diagnostics delivery beyond the bench and contribute to cutting-edge healthcare technology.
Responsibilities
- Deliver customer training on Abbott diagnostic systems
- Assist with new instrument installations and assay implementations
- Investigate and resolve application- and assay-related issues
- Build relationships with Biomedical Scientists, Laboratory Managers and Pathologists
- Provide expert technical and clinical support to customers
- Ensure compliance with quality and regulatory requirements
- Travel across the UK to support customer sites
Key requirements
- BSc in Biomedical Science, Life Sciences, Medical Technology, or related field
- Experience in a clinical diagnostic laboratory
- Strong understanding of laboratory workflows and diagnostic testing
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Passion for training, coaching, and supporting healthcare professionals
- Full UK driving licence
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively including overnight stays
- Ideal: HCPC registration
- Experience in Clinical Chemistry, Immunoassay, Haematology, Blood Sciences, Molecular Diagnostics, or Pathology
- Senior or Specialist Biomedical Scientist background
- Experience with laboratory analysers and diagnostic instrumentation
