Sound Engineer

Overview

In this role you will mix live sound at horseracing events while handling hands-on audio installation, maintenance and repair work. You will operate pro audio gear, build racks, pull and terminate cables, and service hire equipment on-site. Expect travel across mainland UK, weekends and evenings, with interactions alongside race officials and venue staff. You may progress into sound system design, commissioning and project management. This is a practical, varied role that blends live events with technical craft in a sports environment.

Responsibilities

• Mixing sound at live sporting events
• Rack building and speaker installation
• Cable pulling and termination
• Servicing and repairing hire equipment
• On-site maintenance and repair of installed sound systems
• Collaborating with race officials and on-site personnel
• Learning horseracing rules to interact effectively with customers
• Potential progression into sound system design, commissioning and installation project management

Key requirements

• Experience wiring and terminating pro audio or AV installations
• Experience fitting and installing professional audio or AV equipment
• Strong customer-facing communication and interpersonal skills
• Full UK driving licence
• Live sound mixing experience, particularly in sporting venues (highly desirable)
• Knowledge of 100V line speaker systems, Q-SYS, Soundweb, Yamaha digital mixers or two-way radios would be beneficial
