Lead AI Software Engineer

Overview

In this Lead AI Software Engineer role, you will drive hands-on delivery of scalable, production-grade software across squads and domains, translating designs into implementable tasks. You’ll blend deep software engineering with AI-native practices to ensure reliable, secure outputs that meet business requirements. Collaborating with technical leads, architects, and product teams, you’ll elevate quality, testing, observability, and operational readiness across the lifecycle. This is a chance to shape AI-driven software delivery at scale within Vodafone’s VOIS ecosystem.

Responsibilities

• Lead build execution within a squad, platform capability, or engineering domain
• Translate designs into clear implementation plans and tasks
• Decompose solutions into sequenced, testable increments
• Guide engineers and AI coding agents through implementation and release activities
• Deliver and oversee complex, high-risk software components
• Review AI-generated and engineer-written code for correctness and security
• Advance engineering excellence through automated testing, observability, and production verification
• Support CI/CD, deployment readiness, runbooks, and service ownership
• Ensure AI outputs are explainable, traceable, and compliant with standards
• Escalate architectural ambiguity and cross-domain risks
• Identify recurring issues and improve controls and practices
• Coach engineers on AI-native practices and responsible AI usage
• Contribute to evolving AI-native SDLC practices and productivity

Key requirements

• Significant experience delivering production-grade software in complex environments
• Strong hands-on Java and Spring Boot experience, with React or Angular
• Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs, microservices, integrations, and platform services
• Knowledge of cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, containers, and modern integration patterns
• Experience building event-driven solutions (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
• Ability to lead software implementation within agile teams
• Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and production support
• Ability to translate specifications into actionable implementation plans
• Strong code review capabilities including AI-generated outputs
• Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools and guiding AI coding agents
• Understanding of responsible AI practices (validation, security, governance)
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, collaboration, and communication
