Technical Director Electrical Engineer – Data Centres (Building Services)

Overview

As Electrical Technical Director in the Data Centres sector, you will lead technical direction and ensure reliable, scalable electrical infrastructure. You’ll head a team of engineers, drive strategic initiatives, and collaborate with industry leaders to advance data centre technology. Focus areas include energy efficiency, security, and integration of emerging tech. This role offers global collaboration, business development, and the chance to shape critical infrastructure for Hyperscale and enterprise clients.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day management and vision for the team, nurturing collaboration and performance.
• Develop and maintain client relationships and strengthen WSP’s brand in the UK and EMEA.
• Manage budgets and contribute to MEP budgeting and performance improvements.
• Collaborate with directors and senior leaders to implement strategic initiatives across the team and wider business.
• Drive work-winning efforts, forecasting, and service delivery within MEP.
• Oversee project progress, financials, and operational management for the team.
• Engage with clients, developers, contractors, and architects to secure projects and position WSP as the engineer of choice.
• Be the main client contact and ensure excellent client care while pursuing new business opportunities.

Key requirements

• Chartership through CIBSE/IET Engineering Council or willingness to work towards it
• Electrical design engineering expertise across power distribution, generation, critical backups, and energy management
• Proven leadership and team management abilities
• Strategic vision with ability to align engineering initiatives with business goals
• Strong project management skills including budgets, timelines, and quality control
• Effective communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Adaptability to evolving DC sector technologies and standards
