Lead AI Engineer – Enterprise AI Products

Overview

Senior lead engineer for Citi’s Enterprise AI Products, driving end-to-end technical stewardship of an AI-enabled platform. You will translate business needs into technical solutions, partner with risk and platform teams, and shape the product roadmap with the team lead. Expect hands-on coding in Python/Java, architecture ownership, and collaboration across cross-functional partners to deliver commercially impactful AI deployments. This role combines software delivery with business engagement in a fast-moving, high-impact environment.

Responsibilities

• Own and guide technical components end-to-end aligned with business goals and product strategy
• Mentor and lead technical deliverables while evolving toward potential line management
• Determine appropriate use of AI (Agents, GenAI, ADK) for business needs and justify decisions
• Collaborate with Risk and AI platform teams to advance Citi’s tech and procedures
• Partner with senior stakeholders to shape a compelling technical roadmap
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers to raise team capability
• Ensure software quality through code reviews, design reviews, and robust testing culture
• Engage directly with business partners to translate problems into actionable requirements and roadmaps
• Capture objectives, distill requirements into user stories, and maintain a prioritized backlog
• Design, develop, and deploy robust solutions using OOP and sound design principles
• Develop production-grade code in Python/Java and build ML/AI components (ADK, MCP)
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines; troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently
• Collaborate on shared components and leverage networking, REST, databases, and CLI in delivery
• Ensure risk and security considerations align with Citi policies
• Foster cross-team integration to deliver platform capabilities across the organization

Key requirements

• Senior developer or technical lead experience
• Strong OO programming, design, and architecture background
• Proficiency in Java or Python (ideally both)
• Experience with Postgres/Oracle
• Experience with Generative AI and AI Agents (ADK)
• Practical CI/CD tooling experience (e.g. Jenkins, uDeploy, Tekton, Harness)
• Ability to drive technical strategy and roadmaps across teams
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting under pressure
• Foundational knowledge of networking, REST APIs, databases, and CLI
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across levels
• Line management and team leadership experience
