Senior Cost Consultant – Government Departments

Overview

In this role you drive end-to-end cost management for complex private and public sector commissions within live heritage projects in central London. You will shape feasibility, business cases and procurement strategies, manage cost planning and procurement, and deliver value through life-cycle costing and post-contract reporting. You collaborate with clients and other consultants to secure robust financial outcomes while promoting safety, integrity and client-focused delivery. This role offers meaningful impact by shaping modern workplace solutions on prestigious, sensitive sites.

Responsibilities

• Conduct feasibility studies, business cases and procurement reporting
• Apply value management techniques at project outset
• Manage estimating, cost planning and final cost plan ownership
• Oversee procurement stages from prequalification to contract preparation
• Control post-contract cost variances and change control
• Oversee cost checking, valuation work and monthly post-contract cost reports
• Participate actively in meetings and act as a client/consultant interface
• Lead value engineering and life cycle costing
• Negotiate and agree final accounts
• Support client relationships and cross-team collaboration
• Marketing and business development in the sector; support regional promotion
• Line management and recruitment

Key requirements

• Track record of delivering service excellence to clients
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• NEC Contract experience
• Strong negotiating, influencing and communication skills
• Solid knowledge of contracts, estimating, valuations, cost reporting and financial modelling
• Degree preferred but not essential
• Professional memberships are advantageous but not essential
