Overview

In this Regional Underwriting Officer role for BI Retail, you guide underwriting strategy, standards, and profitability across the UK, partnering with internal teams and brokers. You will coach colleagues, mentor development of underwriting talent, and influence product and market decisions. The position emphasizes leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and strategic growth in a dynamic insurance environment. You’ll be a technical reference point, shaping regional underwriting practices and market presence.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement short- and long-term BI Retail regional underwriting strategies
  • Ensure underwriting controls, cures, and audits are executed promptly
  • Act as advisor/referral point to align product development with profit, growth, and retention goals
  • Participate in strategic planning to expand market presence and balance growth with profitability
  • Foster broker/client relationships and ensure brokers understand BI Retail objectives
  • Provide underwriting leadership at regional meetings and influence decisions
  • Monitor underwriting results with detailed standards and propose corrective actions
  • Mentor and coach underwriting staff to achieve productivity and profitability objectives
  • Collaborate with Risk Control, Claims, and Operations to support underwriting/marketing decisions
  • Engage in additional duties as needed

Key requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher education level
  • ACII qualification
  • Proven track record of leading others at a senior underwriting level
  • Advanced proficiency in organization, financial acumen, communication, collaboration, presentation, networking, risk selection and analytical thinking
  • Advanced leadership competencies in Leading the Business, Leading Others, and Leading Self
  • Advanced experience in Property & Casualty Underwriting
