Overview

As a Principal Engineer, you provide senior technical leadership across client estates, shaping architectures, guiding complex projects and resolving high-stakes issues. You move across platforms and codebases, upholding technical authority in .NET/Umbraco and PHP/Drupal, with cloud and hosting layers. You translate opportunities into design, steer large implementations, and establish confidence during critical moments. This role lets you influence outcomes for mission-driven clients while elevating engineering standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical authority across client estates spanning multiple platforms and codebases.
• Shape technical solutions from discovery through design and estimation for new business.
• Lead architecture on large, complex client projects.
• Serve as senior technical escalation point for live incidents across stacks.
• Raise engineering standards via mentorship, reviews, and governance.
• Represent the organisation credibly to senior technical stakeholders.

Key requirements

• Cross-stack technical depth across .NET/Umbraco and PHP/Drupal
• Architectural leadership for robust, scalable, secure content-managed platforms
• Hands-on cloud experience (Azure) with CI/CD, infrastructure as code, hosting environments
• Diagnostic ability under pressure to explore unfamiliar codebases
• Pre-sales and technical discovery experience including solution design and estimation
• Software engineering fundamentals: clean code, testing, design patterns, security, accessibility
• Leadership and mentorship with focus on elevating others
