Senior Surety Underwriter

Overview

As Senior Surety Underwriter, you will drive underwriting of UK Contract and Commercial Surety risks within Zurich’s London market, aligning decisions with our strategies and pricing frameworks. You will work with brokers and clients to grow the Surety portfolio, influence credit committee decisions, and help shape product offerings and operational improvements. The role sits in the Surety Underwriting team within Commercial Insurance, offering flexible working patterns and a strong focus on collaboration and impact. You will contribute to Zurich’s strategic objectives while delivering exceptional service and technical underwriting expertise.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite facilities and bonds within authority and present recommendations for external credit committee approval
• Participate in credit committees to approve larger facilities and bonds
• Negotiate bond wordings, indemnities, and related recourse documents with solicitors and clients
• Act as a go-to reference for bond enquiries and indemnity documentation
• Develop a pipeline of facility and bond opportunities via client, Zurich relationships, and brokers
• Identify and develop new surety products and target segments
• Implement operational improvements within the team
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistency with strategies and pricing frameworks

Key requirements

• Proven experience underwriting UK Contract and Commercial Surety
• Strong financial analysis skills to assess client creditworthiness
• Solid understanding of indemnity structures and practical application
• Collaborative team player
• In-depth knowledge of Surety bond wordings and documentation
• Well-established network within the UK Surety market (desirable)
