Senior Machine Learning Engineer

Overview

As Senior Machine Learning Engineer on Voleon’s Research teams, you translate cutting-edge ideas into production code, building data pipelines and modeling infrastructure to power quantitative trading. You’ll work closely with PhD researchers to design scalable ML models and ensure systems are reliable and maintainable at scale. This role sits at the intersection of research and engineering, combining mathematical insight with software prowess to advance trading strategies. Responsibilities

• Partner with PhD researchers to design, implement, and productize ML models for quantitative trading
• Develop and maintain complex data pipelines: ingestion, feature engineering, validation, quality monitoring
• Translate research prototypes into production-ready, well-tested code
• Build extensible tools/frameworks to accelerate model development and experimentation
• Supervise and remediate data quality issues across research and production environments
• Lead projects from requirements to delivery with emphasis on long-term maintainability
• Coordinate deployment efforts and align ownership with research and engineering stakeholders
• Foster engineering consistency, standards, and best practices within Research

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong CS fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, systems design
• Mathematical maturity in statistics, linear algebra, optimization, probability
• Deep proficiency in Python; R and/or C/C++ a plus
• Experience with numerical/data science libraries (NumPy, Pandas, SciPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow)
• Proven experience building/maintaining ML systems in a distributed environment
• Linux development with emphasis on performance, correctness, reproducibility
• Attention to detail with imperfect/heterogeneous data
• Strong verbal and written communication and collaboration with researchers
