Mobile Fabric Engineer (South London)

Overview

In this role you will deliver building fabric maintenance across Metropolitan Police sites in South London, combining planned preventative and reactive work to keep estates safe and functional. You will work across multiple sites, reporting to SLAs and KPIs, and liaise with clients to minimise disruption in sensitive environments. The role offers a vehicle, tools, and opportunity to grow your skills through Mitie’s training programmes while supporting critical police estates. You will be part of a mobile, cross-site team that responds to issues, performs essential trades, and contributes to safe, well-maintained facilities.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive fabric repairs across MET Police buildings
• Perform carpentry, basic plumbing, painting, plastering, and general fabric maintenance
• Complete minor repairs to fixtures, fittings, doors, walls, partitions, and building finishes
• Ensure work meets safety standards and contractual SLAs/KPIs
• Maintain records using Mitie systems (job sheets, asset updates, compliance docs)
• Liaise with client and site personnel to minimise disruption
• Diagnose issues, propose solutions, and escalate complex problems
• Participate in out-of-hours rota for emergency call-outs

Key requirements

• Proven experience in building fabric or multi-trade roles (carpentry preferred, not essential)
• Full UK driving licence
• Strong understanding of health & safety standards and safe working practices
• Ability to work independently across multiple sites with good problem-solving skills
• Ability to pass Metropolitan Police vetting (essential)
