Backend Software Engineer C# .Net AWS

Overview

In this role you will lead the development of robust backend services for a major, international payments platform. You will work in a small autonomous team to modernise the backend, design new capabilities, and influence the platform’s evolving architecture. You’ll own features end-to-end, tackle scalable API design, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver value in a complex payments domain. The opportunity combines hands-on coding with technical leadership and exposure to modern cloud and AI-assisted tooling.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement robust APIs and backend services using C# .Net Core
• Modernise existing services and contribute to the Corporate Payments platform rebuild
• Lead delivery of new features from design through production
• Apply system design and architectural principles, including microservices and event-driven architecture
• Design and optimise SQL databases and queries
• Write, maintain and improve automated tests to high quality standards
• Work with AWS or other cloud platforms in production
• Leverage AI development tools (Claude, GitHub Copilot) to boost productivity
• Mentor other engineers and promote technical best practices

Key requirements

• Strong C# .Net Core backend development experience
• Experience building production APIs
• Good SQL skills
• Experience with system design, software architecture, microservices and event-driven systems
• Comfort with cloud infrastructure in production (AWS preferred)
• Experience mentoring engineers and sharing technical knowledge
• Hands-on experience using AI coding tools such as Claude or Copilot
• Finance / payments experience is desirable but not essential
