Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer on Roku’s OS UI/SDK team, you design and deliver engaging platform features like screensavers, wallpapers, trivia, and AI-driven experiences for millions of users. You will build proof-of-concept prototypes in a startup-minded environment and mature them for production. Collaboration with UI/UX, product, backend, and leadership is key to turning ideas into impactful solutions. You’ll apply AI and ML to enhance user experiences and tackle cross-functional challenges. Responsibilities

• Design and develop features for Roku platform experiences (screensavers, wallpapers, trivia, featured experiences)
• Build rapid PoCs and iterate in a startup mindset
• Collaborate with UI/UX, backend engineering, product management to implement new user experiences
• Translate PoCs into production-ready, scalable implementations
• Leverage AI, ML, and large language models to create innovative platform features
• Investigate and resolve technical issues to maintain commercially viable solutions
• Contribute to API design decisions considering trade-offs
• Deliver end-to-end features across cloud, content management, and UI development

Key requirements

• Extensive experience in a software engineering environment
• Proven work with AI/ML and LLM technologies
• Proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, React Native, Python, BrightScript
• Experience in embedded environments
• Experience in productionising solutions, including content management and cloud/backend integration
• Knowledge of core OS concepts such as memory management and multi-threading
• Experience in API design with understanding of trade-offs
• Strong communication and cross-team collaboration
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field
