Senior Mechanical Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead mechanical design on high-profile, multi-disciplinary projects from concept to handover. You will join Cundall’s Edinburgh team, focused on low-energy design and decarbonisation to create energy-efficient buildings. You’ll collaborate with specialists across disciplines to deliver sustainable solutions and champion passive design principles. Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design across project lifecycles from inception to handover
• Make independent, well-reasoned engineering decisions
• Produce drawings, specifications and equipment schedules (AutoCAD, Revit)
• Perform engineering calculations and analyses using standard principles
• Coordinate with structural, architectural and other design disciplines
• Represent the firm in client meetings, design workshops and contractor discussions
• Monitor on-site installation quality, manage snagging and handover procedures
• Prepare client-focused technical reports and support senior staff with documentation
• Evaluate and advocate for decarbonisation and passive design solutions

Key requirements

• At least 4 years of professional experience in building services design
• Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Building Services or Architectural Engineering
• Strong understanding of RIBA Design stages and information requirements
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit and Microsoft Office
• Passion for low-energy architecture, passive design, and decarbonisation
• Membership of a relevant engineering institute (preferred) or progress toward it
• Interest in digital engineering and AI-assisted tools for project efficiency and accuracy
