Civil Engineer

Overview

In this role you will support the Buildings team across Glasgow or Edinburgh, delivering civil engineering design for multi-disciplinary projects from feasibility through construction; you’ll shape layouts, earthworks, roads, pavements and drainage, collaborating with multiple disciplines to drive project delivery and client value. You’ll prepare reports and drawings, engage with authorities, and mentor junior team members, all within a supportive, innovative environment that values sustainability and hands-on delivery.

Responsibilities

• Design and coordinate civil infrastructure including Earthworks, internal site roads, pavement and drainage; prepare associated specifications
• Perform QA checks to ensure design quality
• Liaise with Local Authorities and stakeholders to secure approvals
• Write technical reports (drainage strategies, notes, surveys) and prepare technical submissions (highways S278/38/50; sewers S104/185, SAB)
• Collaborate with clients, third parties and multidisciplinary teams on project aspects
• Contribute to engineering innovation and perform the Designer role under CDM regulations
• Communicate with clients, contractors, design teams and authorities to resolve design-related matters
• Conduct site visits to inform design and during construction
• Strategic development of project layouts, levels, drainage and highways
• Contribute to 3D earthworks models and 2D drawing production
• Identify and resolve below-ground utilities and obstruction constraints
• Support cost control through budget awareness, value engineering and efficiency
• Participate in project and regulator meetings
• Contribute to financial performance via resource planning and processes
• Handle incoming site and design queries and requests

Key requirements

• Degree-qualified Civil Engineer
• Minimum 3 years post-graduate experience
• Working towards Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with ICE
• Experience delivering commercially successful projects and collaborating with project teams
• Experience in drainage strategies for planning and sustainable drainage solutions
• Earthworks modelling; pavement design interest or experience
• Proficiency with Infodrainage and AutoCAD/Civils 3D; awareness of Civil 3D and related platforms
