Principal/Senior HV Cable Design Engineer – Energy

Overview

In this role you contribute to the design of high‑voltage transmission and distribution projects within Stantec’s Energy team. You will work on HV cable and substation design, FEED and detailed design, collaborating across disciplines to deliver sustainable grid solutions. You’ll engage with clients on renewables, HVDC interconnectors, and offshore grids, shaping technical outcomes and project readiness. The position offers growth, coaching opportunities, and a meaningful role in the UK’s energy transition.

Responsibilities

• Design (concept, FEED and detailed) of transmission & distribution systems for utilities based on international standards
• Lead/interdisciplinary coordination to resolve design issues with leads
• Cable installation design including routing, trenching, bonding, phasing, pulling, termination and jointing
• Apply CYMCAP for cable sizing calculations
• Collaborate with other disciplines and coaches within the energy team
• Support/lead projects across HVDC, interconnectors, windfarms, substations, offshore grids
• Work with UK T&D clients and stakeholders across varied projects
• Adapt to changing workload and deliver under pressure

Key requirements

• Bachelor/Master in Electrical Engineering or related field
• Chartered Engineer with Engineering Council and ICE preferred
• Experience as civil substation engineer with HV civil project awareness
• Design experience (Concept, FEED, detail) for transmission & distribution systems
• Strong inter-disciplinary coordination and problem-solving abilities
• Hands-on CYMCAP experience and cable sizing calculations
• Proficiency in MS Outlook, MS Office; AutoCAD or MicroStation experience
