Transport Manager

Overview

In this Transport Manager role, you will steer a busy general haulage/pallet network operation to deliver safe, reliable and cost-efficient transport services. You’ll lead the transport team, partner with internal stakeholders, and continuously improve planning and performance in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities

• Maximise use of transport management systems and fleet resources for optimal driver, vehicle, load, and trailer allocation
• Lead, motivate and develop the transport team to boost productivity, engagement and customer service
• Oversee recruitment, onboarding, training and development within the department
• Foster strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and operational teams to boost efficiency
• Maintain clear communication with customers and internal departments to enhance performance and profitability
• Ensure operational information is accurate, secure and GDPR-compliant
• Manage driver hours and timesheets in line with Working Time Regulations and transport laws
• Produce, analyse and review KPIs to identify trends and drive continuous improvement
• Lead safe practices, housekeeping, and audit compliance across operations
• Support operational objectives while maintaining service levels and cost control

Key requirements

• Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) or equivalent qualification
• Experience in general haulage or pallet network operations
• Proven transport management experience in logistics or distribution
• Knowledge of EU Tachograph Regulations, Working Time Regulations and Road Transport Legislation
• Working knowledge of transport management systems and operational planning tools
• Commercial awareness with ability to identify efficiencies and profitability improvements
• Strong geographical knowledge and route-planning ability
• Solid Health and Safety regulatory knowledge and compliance
• Experience managing, motivating and developing teams
• Ability to analyse operational data and solve complex logistics challenges
