Software Engineer – Recurring Payin

Overview

In this role you will help build and scale Wise’s Direct Debit API and Payin platform, enabling automated funding and pre-authorizations for partners. You’ll work on high-impact backend services that power millions of users across web and mobile, focusing on reliability, security, and performance. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver a robust payments ecosystem that supports global money movement. This is a chance to shape how Wise consolidates payin workflows at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services in Java and Kotlin with Spring Boot on AWS
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs for millions of users
• Develop and optimise services powering the card pay-in method
• Design database schemas and optimise queries in PostgreSQL
• Build and maintain event-driven architectures with Apache Kafka
• Develop and maintain a payment orchestration system routing payments across PSPs
• Write automated tests (unit, integration, end-to-end)
• Conduct code reviews to ensure quality, security, and standards
• Participate in on-call rotations for production incidents
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, analysts, and engineers on cross-functional projects
• Identify performance bottlenecks, scalability issues, and technical debt
• Ensure security best practices and regulatory compliance in financial data handling

Key requirements

• Experience with Java and Kotlin
• Spring Boot framework
• Cloud deployment on AWS

• Payment orchestration and multi-PSP routing knowledge is a plus
