Electrical Service Engineer

Overview

As an Electrical Engineer at ABB, you will support installation, commissioning, maintenance and engineering for MV/LV switchgear, protection relays and VSD systems across oil & gas, marine and renewable sectors. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable electrical solutions and contribute to power system studies and safety compliance. Responsibilities

• Install, commission, maintain, troubleshoot, upgrade and retrofit MV/LV switchgear, protection relays and VSD systems
• Provide technical support and engineering expertise remotely and on customer sites across the full service lifecycle
• Develop protection relay settings and coordination studies for safe, reliable power system operation
• Contribute to power system studies including short-circuit, load flow, arc flash, harmonic and EMC assessments
• Diagnose and resolve faults on ABB VSD systems (ACS1000, ACS5000, ACS6000, ACS800, ACS880)
• Prepare technical documentation, engineering drawings, testing procedures, work packs and method statements
• Collaborate with customers and internal teams to define project scope, support bids and identify service growth opportunities
• Ensure compliance with ABB quality standards, IEC requirements and applicable international regulations; deliver technical training and knowledge transfer

Key requirements

• Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
• Proven experience with MV/LV electrical distribution systems (LV, 11kV and 33kV)
• Proven experience commissioning, testing, maintaining and supporting MV/LV switchgear, protection relays and/or VSDs
• Strong knowledge of protection relay configuration, power system studies and electrical fault analysis
• Sound understanding of electrical power systems, IEC standards and electrical safety regulations
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and drive continuous improvement
• Desirable: ABB products/software PCM600, Omicron Test Universe, MNS/MNavigate, Asset Vision/Field Information Manager
• Desirable: knowledge of AVR/excitation systems, industrial cybersecurity, MV/LV switching operations
• Desirable: project experience in energy/industrial/marine/offshore environments with relevant certifications
