Digital Design Lead (Structural)

Overview

As the Digital Design Lead (Structural) at HDR, you will own the structural BIM model and deliver digital outputs aligned with the Digital Delivery Plan. You will work within HDR’s Building Engineering Services Group to support the design of critical infrastructure and data-rich facilities. You’ll apply advanced BIM skills to create, maintain, and coordinate discipline models, ensuring accuracy, standards compliance, and timely delivery. You’ll collaborate across disciplines to optimize designs, advance digital delivery, and drive project success while upholding HDR’s inclusive culture and mission to shape the built environment.

Responsibilities

• Own and generate the structural discipline model and BIM elements per the DDP and project scope
• Create and maintain discipline models, systems, content, and overall digital delivery output
• Demonstrate advanced proficiency with software used to deliver designs in Digital Delivery requirements
• Understand architectural/engineering documentation and cross-discipline interactions for design presentation
• Model BIM elements accurately within 3D environment constraints and current software
• Prepare detailed drawings, layouts, and diagrams within project scope, schedule, and budget
• Maintain discipline model data (coordinates, scales, orientations, boundaries, match-lines, views, sheets)
• Produce discipline-specific documentation with precise annotations
• Monitor, improve, and maintain company BIM standards and model health
• Coordinate design with other discipline models through Design Reviews and 3D Coordination processes
• Execute all Digital Delivery requirements identified on the project

Key requirements

• Technical degree / HND / HNC or equivalent experience
• Minimum 6 years related industry experience
• Advanced Revit skills and document management infrastructure (ACC / Forma)
• Advanced 3D Coordination tools experience (ACC / Forma & Navisworks)
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and communication tools
• Strong understanding of engineering or architectural concepts
• Knowledge of ISO19650 and discipline codes and specifications
• Excellent communication, detail orientation, and organizational skills
• Experience on single large or multiple smaller projects
