Mechanical Engineer

Overview

In this role, you contribute to Scotland’s major water and wastewater projects by delivering feasible and detailed mechanical designs for large-scale infrastructure. You will work within AECOM’s Water Team to shape sustainable, resilient systems and collaborate with civil, electrical, and process engineers. The role offers hybrid working with site surveys and design reviews that drive real-world impact for communities. Responsibilities

• Prepare feasibility studies, outline and detailed designs, and construction support
• Produce plant layouts, design drawings, and mechanical specifications (venting, headloss, P&IDs)
• Perform hydraulic headloss calculations and create equipment schedules
• Collaborate with civil, electrical, process, and mechanical engineers across the country
• Visit sites for surveys and liaise with clients, contractors, and suppliers
• Participate in design reviews and risk assessments (HAZOPs, HAZIDs, ALMs, SWIFTS)

Key requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• Progress towards Chartered Engineer status (e.g., IMechE)
• Proven ability to deliver engineering designs, reports, drawings, specifications, and calculations
• Hands-on experience delivering water and wastewater engineering projects
