Biomedical Scientist

Overview

In this role you will deliver a high-quality clinical biochemistry service as a collaborative member of the Blood Sciences laboratory. Working under senior staff, you will handle, process and analyse clinical samples, authorise results, and maintain records for the laboratory’s quality system. You will uphold safety and keep equipment calibrated and clean, while engaging in CPD and cross-functional teaching. The role offers opportunities to contribute to research, audits and enhanced patient care, within a supportive, development-focused team.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate within the department to deliver a professional clinical laboratory service
• Perform core scientific and interpretive work in line with registered healthcare scientist qualifications
• Participate in CPD and training programs
• Supervise unqualified staff and deputise for section leaders as needed
• Provide specialist clinical technical services, including involvement in research and audit activities
• Deliver comprehensive diagnostic services while maintaining high safety and quality standards

Key requirements

• Biomedical Science degree or equivalent acceptable for registration by IBMS/HPC
• HCPC Registration and clear understanding of HCPC Code of Conduct and Professional Standards
• IBMS Specialist Diploma or demonstrated equivalent depth and breadth of knowledge
• Active involvement in Continuing Professional Development

• Ability to work both independently and in a team
• Good practical analytical skills
• Judgment on complex problems
• Good practical analytical skills for diagnostic laboratory work
• Use of pathology computer systems
• Ability to work with high accuracy and interpretive tasks
