Overview

In this role you will manage and grow Hiscox UK’s Med Mal Schemes portfolio, focusing on existing business and new scheme opportunities in healthcare, beauty and wellbeing. You’ll collaborate with the Med Mal and Schemes teams to drive profitable growth, maintain broker relationships and shape underwriting strategy. The position offers cross-office flexibility (York, London, Colchester) with regular travel. You’ll mentor junior colleagues and help bring innovative products to market while staying ahead of industry risks and regulatory updates.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver exceptional service to brokers and write more complex business
  • Collaborate with Head of Healthcare, Beauty and Wellbeing and Schemes teams to grow Schemes profitably
  • Challenge conventions and implement growth and underwriting strategies
  • Stay current on risks, exposures and regulatory changes to maintain market leadership
  • Help develop new products and propositions for current/future portfolios
  • Mentor and develop junior team members
  • Shape underwriting strategy and portfolio to meet growth ambitions
  • Own relationships with key broker partners
  • Travel to offices and broker meetings as needed

Key requirements

  • Strong Medical Malpractice, Healthcare or Professional Indemnity underwriting experience
  • Experience with schemes business or delegated authority arrangements (advantageous)
  • Experience writing Casualty and Property lines (beneficial)
  • Ability to make confident underwriting decisions in complex situations
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong influencing and negotiation abilities
  • Commercial mindset with ability to identify new opportunities
  • ACII qualified or actively working towards qualification
  • Ability to work independently within a collaborative team
  • Degree or relevant insurance qualifications advantageous but not mandatory
