Project Director – Rail Infrastructure

Overview

In this role you will oversee the Network Rail Framework activities for a major rail-focused civil contractor, guiding a delegated team of project leads to deliver safely and on schedule. You will work closely with NR client delivery managers to manage risk, resources, and stakeholder communication, shaping execution across high-profile rail works. The opportunity centers on large-scale, fast-paced project delivery with a strong safety culture. You will drive performance, safety leadership, and value delivery within a critical rail program.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate a multi-disciplinary team of Project Managers, Site Managers, Construction Managers, QS, SHESQ Advisors, and Engineers
• Maintain strong relationships with Programme Delivery Director and NR Works Delivery teams
• Provide updates to internal and external stakeholders on project progress
• Ensure risk assessments and construction phase plans are in place to support safe, resource-ready delivery
• Resolve operational issues with escalation to Operations Director for strategic matters
• Ensure compliance with company standards, policies, and procedures
• Oversee remits close and final accounting to enable timely client payment
• Demonstrate visible safety leadership and advance a Never harm culture on the framework
• Plan and deliver CAMS projects safely, on time, and to agreed standards
• Set and maintain contract programmes for all remits

Key requirements

• Degree Qualified in Civil Engineering
• CEng MICE would be highly advantageous
• Essential rail project experience on high-profile projects
• Experience running possession works
• Director-level experience leading major rail projects preferred
• Ability to manage a large team in a high-paced environment
• Understanding of Network Rail procedures advantageous
