Overview

In this role you will lead the commercial function on the N1N2 Birmingham project, guiding cost control, risk and governance to optimise value. You will mentor a team of Quantity Surveyors and work with project leadership to influence strategic commercial decisions. You’ll manage NEC contract administration, procurement and through-life cost management to support large-scale delivery. The position offers impact in a major Buildings and Infrastructure project within a leading UK builder, with a clear path to professional development and chartership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the commercial team on the N1N2 project, ensuring cost control, risk management and performance
  • Provide leadership and support to Quantity Surveyors and Senior Quantity Surveyors
  • Contribute as a core member of the project leadership team with commercial insight
  • Oversee NEC contract administration, including changes, compensation events and obligations
  • Lead procurement and supply chain activities to achieve best value
  • Own financial reporting, forecasting, cost management and governance for senior stakeholders
  • Identify and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities to protect value
  • Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and stakeholders as the commercial lead
  • Mentor and develop team members towards professional qualifications
  • Champion best practice and compliance with BB processes on a major project

Key requirements

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying (BSc, MSc or equivalent)
  • Chartered membership of RICS, CIOB or ICES (preferred)
  • Experience as Managing Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor on large-scale projects
  • Strong NEC contracts knowledge with end-to-end commercial leadership
  • Experience developing and leading commercial teams
  • Strong cost management, risk, forecasting, reporting and supply chain skills
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder management
  • Experience guiding commercial strategy for project leadership
  • CSCS Professional Qualified Person Card (or ability to obtain)
