Overview

In this Mechanical Associate role, you lead mechanical design for complex healthcare projects across the UK and internationally, balancing hands-on engineering with people leadership and client engagement. You shape resilient, low-carbon building services and ensure high-quality digital delivery. The role offers chartership support and cross-disciplinary collaboration within Ramboll’s healthcare team, with opportunities to influence patient care through sustainable design. You will work with leading global partners on impactful hospital programmes.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering design and delivery for healthcare projects from concept to handover
• Mentor and develop small to medium technical teams of mechanical engineers and technicians
• Oversee MEP coordination and BIM delivery using Revit/BIM 360 and tools like MagiCad and IES
• Produce and review detailed design calculations, specifications and technical drawings to required standards
• Act as client-facing technical lead in project meetings and maintain strong client relationships
• Manage project scope, resources and delivery as MEP/Mechanical project manager, mitigating technical and commercial risks
• Support business development through proposals, technical inputs and thought leadership
• Champion sustainability, zero-carbon design, QA and continuous improvement across projects
• Promote Ramboll’s profile through collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams and external partners

Key requirements

• Proven track record delivering mechanical building services on healthcare or high-resilience/complex projects
• Experience leading project teams or technical workstreams and promoting collaborative delivery
• Degree in mechanical/building services engineering or related discipline
• Eligibility for or progress towards MCIBSE/MIMechE/MIHEEM; Ramboll provides chartership support
• Strong competence in digital design delivery (Revit/BIM 360) and familiarity with MEP tools
• Excellent project management skills to run multiple projects and manage risks
• Clear, confident written and verbal communication with clients and teams
• Self-starter able to work autonomously while nurturing client relationships
