Java Software Engineer II

Overview

In this role you will contribute to building trusted, market-leading technology products within a collaborative agile team. You will design, develop, and troubleshoot secure Java and React code, aiming for high quality and reliability. You will leverage AI-assisted development tools in a controlled, feedback-driven environment to accelerate delivery while maintaining security standards. You will build cloud-native AWS applications and help drive automation, data-driven improvements, and scalable architecture. This position offers the opportunity to influence system design, uphold engineering hygiene, and engage with communities of practice in a global financial services setting.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and troubleshoot software solutions with non-routine approaches
• Write secure, high-quality Java and React code with limited guidance
• Leverage enterprise-authorized AI coding assist tools and ensure outputs meet peer review, testing, and secure coding standards
• Utilize SDLC tools and AI-assisted development to improve automation and delivery
• Design and maintain cloud-native applications on AWS
• Gather and analyze data to drive continuous improvement of software and systems
• Proactively identify and solve technical problems, contributing to architecture and coding hygiene
• Collaborate to foster diversity, inclusion, and respect within the team
• Contribute to engineering communities of practice and events

Key requirements

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts with advanced experience
• Hands-on experience in system design, application development, testing and operational stability
• Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools with ability to critically evaluate outputs
• Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity and security considerations
• Advanced skills in Java (11+), Spring Boot and AWS
• Intermediate-level familiarity with AWS or other cloud environments
• Strong coding fundamentals: algorithms and data structures
• Experience across SDLC and agile methodologies (CI/CD, resiliency, security)
• Knowledge of software applications and technical processes in cloud/AI/platform engineering
• Experience with Transformative AI or LLM-driven solutions
• Preferred: building AI platforms for AI-driven customer experiences
