Overview
In this role you will lead mechanical and structural design for highly regulated industries, ensuring technical excellence and on-time delivery. You will mentor engineering teams and oversee concept-to-manufacture processes for bespoke handling systems, lifting equipment, and accessories. You will guide documentation, risk assessment, and compliance with Machinery Safety Regulations and LOLER, while collaborating with project managers and vendors. You will apply MBSE, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and FEA tools to drive robust solutions that meet customer needs and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor engineering teams to deliver high-quality, compliant solutions
- Oversee mechanical design from concept through manufacture for bespoke handling systems and lifting gear
- Develop, review and verify design reports, drawings, calculations, and compliance documentation
- Provide technical guidance and risk assessment to mitigate project delays
- Collaborate with project managers, lead engineers, and stakeholders for seamless project execution
- Engage with supply chain and vendors to specify and develop mechanical components
- Ensure compliance with Machinery Safety Regulations and LOLER
Key requirements
- BEng in Mechanical Engineering
- Proven experience in mechanical engineering within a highly regulated sector
- Design for fabrication, welding and manufacturing tolerancing knowledge
- Strong mechanical and structural engineering principles knowledge (handling, manufacture, machinery design)
- Ability to lead teams and delegate effectively
- Chartered Engineer
- Experience with MathCAD, FEA software (ANSYS, STAAD)
- Experience with piping design software (Fluid Master / Fluid Flow, CAESAR)
- Familiarity with MBSE and requirements-led design (plus)
- Experience with NEC 4 contracts and risk identification (desirable)
- Experience with BS EN 13001, BS EN 13155 or similar crane standards (desirable)
