Overview

As Associate Director in EY’s UK Independence team, you oversee high‑profile independence matters within Risk Management. You interpret complex independence requirements, advise on compliant service structuring, and lead a business‑aligned team. You’ll shape the operating model, embedding accountability and continuous improvement across the function, while engaging senior stakeholders. This role combines regulatory expertise with commercial judgment to enable responsible go‑to‑market activities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply deep knowledge of independence requirements and guidance; advise on compliant, practical service structuring.
• Design and oversee safeguards to support responsible service delivery.
• Lead oversight of high‑profile independence matters across complex scenarios.
• Ensure independence advice is sound, timely, and well documented.
• Support independence compliance monitoring (e.g., fee cap, fee ratios, PACE/GIS requirements).
• Champion use of independence tools to enable compliance and business processes.
• Support the Independence System of Quality Management requirements.
• Lead independence projects with consistent, high‑quality delivery.
• Foster innovation and continuous improvement; coach and develop independence professionals.
• Develop leadership, balance technical rigor with commercial awareness, and escalate appropriately.

Key requirements

• Experience within a Risk Management function with direct independence or related regulatory exposure.
• Strong commercial awareness and ability to lead a second‑line advisory team.
• Proven ability to interpret complex independence requirements into practical guidance.
• Strong analytical and judgement skills; attention to detail in applying regulations.
• Highly organized; capable of managing multiple workstreams in a fast‑paced environment.
• Ability to build trusted relationships with service lines and understand business models.
• Resilience under pressure with a track record of delivering high‑quality outcomes.
