Overview

In this role you will oversee NERC’s property portfolio and act as a subject matter expert on real estate and commercial property law. You will coordinate complex estate matters, manage risk, and ensure compliance with government and UKRI requirements. You’ll lead data collection, reporting, and stakeholder communications to executive levels, enabling globally leading research. This position offers cross-project collaboration and potential line management within a high-profile, mission-driven team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead task management for the property portfolio, set deadlines and allocate resources
  • Identify, manage, and escalate risks and opportunities in the property function
  • Develop cross-cutting policies translating government and UKRI requirements into NERC activities
  • Lead on data and information management for real estate and ensure effective database systems
  • Coordinate annual real estate data reporting to UKRI (SOFTE) including data collection and verification
  • Maintain proactive relationships with professional service providers and colleagues across NERC and partners
  • Collaborate with programme leads (e.g., FDRI & AIMP) to ensure alignment across programmes
  • Act as SME for property real estate, ensuring compliance with legal and contractual requirements
  • Lead on procurement of legal and real professional services
  • Manage local project budgets with cost controls and reporting
  • Prepare briefing materials for committees and external queries; deputise for Head of Real Estate when needed

Key requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of property real estate management experience
  • Professionally recognized qualification(s) in real estate (e.g., commercial property management, valuation, surveyor) or relevant legal qualifications
  • Experience on real estate projects
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple workstreams
  • Sound understanding of UK government property standards and legal frameworks
  • Ability to manage risks and escalate appropriately
  • Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills
  • Strong numeracy and experience handling large datasets
  • Collaborative team player with a drive for professional progression
