Cost Consultant – MEP

Overview

In this role you drive full-cycle cost management for commissions and projects, combining construction know-how with advisory insights to optimize cost outcomes. You will work closely with clients and cross-functional teams to shape procurement, contract strategy, and value engineering. You’ll own cost plans, support final accounts, and promote best practices in cost control and lifecycle cost analysis. Responsibilities

• Conduct feasibility studies and advise on procurement strategies and contract selection
• Prepare and present procurement reports
• Apply value management techniques at project outset
• Manage, estimate, and cost plan activities, owning the final cost plan
• Negotiate and agree final accounts
• Represent Mace to clients and stakeholders across project stages
• Handle contractual frameworks and standard contract forms
• Identify opportunities to improve cost management procedures, templates, and services

Key requirements

• Experience in cost and commercial management within a construction consultancy
• Knowledge of MEP and multi-sector experience
• Experience with JCT/NEC contracts
• Cost planning, budgeting, and estimating experience
• Knowledge of contract law and contractual frameworks
• Ability to advise on Contract Administration
• Knowledge of value engineering and lifecycle costing
• Understanding of sustainability, social value, and carbon reduction in public sector
• Capex vs Opex analysis/advice
• Degree in Quantity Surveying/Cost Management or equivalent
• MRICS/RICS (preferred)
